Back to About Me

This constellation is one of the oldest known constellations and was even mentioned in Homer's The Odyssey.

In this picture, you can see how the stars have been connected to depict a little herdsman sitting down and smoking a pipe.    Isn't he cute? :)  The Big Dipper begins in the upper right hand corner by the pipe.

For a copy of a really wonderful beginner's stargazing manual  - take a look at  H.A. Reys' The Stars : A New Way To See Them.  All of his constellations are drawn in a way to make spotting them easy and fun.
